My project is about finding aesthetic value or beauty in things that are generally thought of as “off-putting.” It exhibits the fact that you can discover something positive or beautiful in virtually any situation if you search hard enough. Through photographing this material, I discovered a unique type of self-portraiture and a new appreciation for the details of life.
In the past, I have challenged myself to complete self-portraiture and ended up being overly critical of the images. This new type of self-portraiture allows for more anonymity and abstraction of the self, thus easing the tension of directly displaying images of myself.
This related project focuses on the many beautiful textures that you can find in things that are generally thought of as “off-putting” or not appealing. It exhibits the fact that you can discover something positive or beautiful in virtually any situation if you search hard enough.
Through photographing the intricacies of these materials, I discovered the beauty within industrial objects. In my last project, I focused on the details of an organic material and these contrasting materials pose a new juxtaposition when compared to my previous work.
